After much brouhaha about Toyin Abraham‘s latest movie, “The Ghost and the Tout Too” and Funke Akindele’s Omo Ghetto: The Saga, we decided to go see the movie ourselves to review and as well compare.
“The Ghost and the Tout” the sequel, titled “The Ghost and the Tout Too“, is directed by Michael Akinrogunde and stars Toyin Abraham, Mercy Johnson, Osas Ighodaro, Adedimeji Lateef, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Odunlade Adekola, Destiny Etiko, Patience Ozokwor, Deyemi Okanlawon, Iyabo Ojo, Anita Osuoha, Ini Edo, Ruggedman, Ali Nuhu and many others. In fact the movie is star loaded!
“The Ghost and The Tout” told the story of a young lady who grew up in a Ghetto and meets with a ghost after an unfortunate incident takes place. Soon after, her life is thrown into a series of dramas that only she can see and understand.
Now the sequel continues with the hilarious story of Isila (Toyin Abraham) this time accompanied by Mercy Johnson-Okojie on an adventure to help a ghost resolve circumstances resulting in death.
Like we said initially, the movie is star studded, well we wonder why? Patience (Mama G) has no business in the movie, just one scene as a bar owner, Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) was also more like a guest appearance and some others.
Most of the scenes in the movie don’t tally; it seems like a rushed project, so much so that it feels a bit less like The Ghost and the Tout Too, and more like The Tout and her fellow touts. Noise, noise and more noise. Especially between Iyabo Ojo’s Click and The Real Warri girl. Those fight scenes are as confusing as ever.
The Ghost and the Tout Too which ought to be a comedy movie struggled to make viewers laugh or connect to the jokes being said.
The truth is that majority of the Nigerian film audiences still range between illiteracy, and those who just want to catch cruise. Only very few people have intellectual reasoning abilities, especially when it comes to seeing and digesting Nigerian movies. It’s the reason why people like Toyin are thriving in the movie industry with movies such as The Ghost And The Tout Too.
Omo Ghetto (The Saga) that it is being compared to has a better story line and brilliantly executed. There was great conflict and the movie was very unpredictable unlike Ghost and The Tout 2.
In what seems like an upgrade of the first movie, The Ghost and The Tout Too was obviously a failed move. It lacks quality, unnecessary scenes, and detours, and a lot of things are left without any actual explanation, the viewers are left to add 1 + 1 to get the results.
Although we love Toyin Abraham, we would not hesitate to call a spade a spade. The Ghost and the Tout Too is a flop!!! Not recommended!
