The highly anticipated romantic Ebony Life movie released for Valentine’s Day, A Sunday Affair is now streaming exclusively on Netflix, and trust us to bring you an accurate review of it.
Produced by Mo Abudu and directed by Walter Taylur, A Sunday affair revolves around two best friends, Uche and Toyin, who end up falling in love with the same man (Sunday). A love triangle ensues with the women unaware that they are dating the same man and then twists and an unexpected ending.
It stars Dakore Egbuson, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Oris Erhuero, Alex Ekubo, Hilda Dokubo, EKu Edewor, and a few others.
When Mo Abudu weeks ago announced the emergence of the romantic flick saying ““A Sunday Affair is an original idea that has been playing around in my head for nearly 10 years. It has been written and rewritten by several writers, each time adding a layer of richness to the story…..we have now made it into a lovely, intimate, and mature feature film” our joy knew no bounds but did the movie live up to giving us that joy?!
Well, we think ‘A Sunday Affair’ was a brilliant and thrilling movie but somehow doesn’t give that ‘exciting perfect movie vibe’ at the end of the day.
We used the term brilliant for it because the love triangle is not the typical story we are often used to, the storyline was fresh, engaging, and mature. It didn’t go the regular way of either being a total disaster or a fun ride, it chose a different route.
We however didn’t enjoy how all the suspense that was being built from the start (Sunday playing both the girls for some time and then the truth coming out) went into vain without any fights between the ladies, just like that?! Of course, a normal viewer will expect a drama but, A Sunday Affair didn’t churn that out, leaving us with a heartbreaking end.
We get that the way the women are there for each other is more powerful and sweet than their separate relationships with Sunday but it is a bit slow sometimes and the fact it didn’t have background music in several of the scenes didn’t help out either.
The production was solid and the acting from the characters was sub-par, the costumier/stylist did an amazing job on the casts as well but there was a major and unforgivable flaw, the ladies had the same wig on from the start to the end, why weren’t their wigs or hairstyles changed at all despite how classy and rich they were?”
In conclusion, A Sunday affair wasn’t a bad watch but it lacked some exciting moments. Sunday for instance could have been more portrayed than just being a shameless cheat cum nice soul who has feelings for literally everyone he gets into bed with.
