Movie Review: Ada Omo Daddy is a beautiful family drama focused on reconciliation

“Ada Omo Daddy”, which premiered in Nigerian cinemas on December 15, 2023, joins the lineup of heartwarming family dramas gracing screens this festive season. Co-produced by Mercy Aigbe and Kazim S Adeoti, and directed by Akay Mason and Adebayo Tijani, the film captivates audiences from start to finish.

Review Ada Omo Daddy

The movie features an ensemble cast of seasoned and emerging talents, including Adeniyi Johnson, Carol King, Charles Okafor, Chinwetelu Agu, Dele Odule, Fred Amata, Mercy Aigbe, Miriam, Morenikeji Gloria, Nkechi Blessing, Omowunmi Dada, Sola Sobowale, Taiwo Adeyemi, Tayo Faniran, Tomi Ojo, Unusual Phyna, and Wunmitoriola.

Set in Lagos, the story revolves around the family of Ireti, portrayed by Sola Sobowale. The stability of her family is shaken when Ireti receives an unexpected call from Ifeanyi, played by Charles Okafor, her long-lost ex-husband, on her daughter’s introduction day. As the family prepares for the wedding, Ifeanyi exerts pressure on Ireti to meet his daughter and walk her down the aisle. The bride, Perosola, played by Omowunmi Dada, discovers that her beloved father is not her biological father, leading to a conflict between loyalty to her upbringing and her newfound connection.

The cast delivers an outstanding performance in the movie, featuring both seasoned actors and newcomers. Charles Okafor, though not frequently seen on screens in recent times, still impressively showcased his enduring talent. Sola Sobowale and Mercy Aigbe aptly embodied their roles, not only through their acting but also in their appearances, and the casting team excelled in selecting these actors for the sister characters.

Omowumi Dada skillfully carries viewers throughout the film. However, her fiance seemed a bit lackluster in his performance, lacking enthusiasm. Nevertheless, the film’s glamorous presentation compensates for any shortcomings in his acting.

The movie explores various themes such as love, unity, and reconciliation, transcending ethnic divides. It portrays a love that goes beyond blood ties, emphasizing unconditional love for one’s child.

The film portrays a love that transcends familial or blood ties. Despite knowing that Pero was not his biological daughter, her father loved and cared for her as his own, illustrating the theme of unconditional parental love.

Furthermore, the movie advocates for forgiveness and reconciliation. It emphasizes the importance of choosing forgiveness, regardless of the pain we may experience or how others treat us.

The narrative also delves into the complexities of pregnancy out of wedlock, highlighting Ifeanyi’s treatment of Ireti and the ensuing drama when someone who had previously abandoned their child reenters their life. This situation turns Ada’s world upside down, exploring the possibilities of reconciliation and the significance of a father walking his daughter down the aisle.

Additionally, the film aspires to bridge the gap between Igbo and Yoruba cultures, conveying a message of unity despite differences. It encourages love, celebration, and the understanding that, despite our issues, we should forgive one another and move forward. The movie skillfully depicts both Yoruba and Igbo cultures, promoting a call for togetherness and harmony.

The cinematography of the film stands out with its diverse camera angles, effectively immersing viewers into the narrative. The chosen setting for the movie is of the highest quality, portraying Ada/Ireti’s world with a depiction of wealth, luxury, and opulence, while effectively contrasting with Ifeanyi’s more modest living conditions. The editing seamlessly glides from scene to scene, contributing to a cohesive viewing experience.

The wedding scene is particularly noteworthy for its beauty, resembling a real wedding with every detail, from the items used to the activities carried out, exuding elegance. “Ada Omo Daddy” is undeniably a visually stunning film that promises enjoyment for everyone

“Ada Omo Daddy” stands as a family drama that beautifully illustrates the impact of love, forgiveness, and reconciliation. It is a captivating film that imparts significant life lessons.

From us at Kemi Filani, it’s 8.5/10 for Ada Omo Daddy.
