Man Down, a gospel movie produced by Wole Olukoju is presently showing at the Nigerian cinemas and trust Kemi Filani to bring you a review of it to determine if it’s worth your time or not.
First of all, we will like to point out that enough publicity wasn’t given to this movie, as a matter of fact it wasn’t until we got to the cinema to watch something else but wasn’t available that made us switch to this instead, otherwise we wouldn’t have known about it and certainly same with other movie viewers.
Man Down tells the story of a committed Christian lady, Bola who finds herself tangled in the web of lust. The story takes us through her struggles, challenges, and fight for redemption against all odds. How her parents chose the opinion of what the church will say and their status against the daughter’s spiritual welfare.
It stars Anu Kolade, Feyi Adepoju, Olukunmi Salako, Wole Olaleye and more.
The story line was key and the major lesson is for Christians not to quick to condemn and crucify their own but draw them close, pray for them in love. When a soldier is wounded, don’t abandon him but help attend to his wounds.
In all honesty, Man Down felt like when one was watching a stage drama, there was no iota of suspense except for when Bola’s tea was poisoned. Even when Ruth’s story came to light, we weren’t surprised whom the culprit was, we literally saw it coming..
Not all the characters brought in their A games especially Bola’s mum, her acting wasn’t very convincing. Also, she didn’t exude a mother and daughter chemistry bond with Bola. No form of empathy whatsoever.
And then, the scene where Bola and Chidi committed fornication was so unreal as well but we’ll forgive them because it is a gospel movie.
Another issue we had with the movie was the story revolving around Bola’s brother’s death, it wasn’t deep enough. He committed suicide because he wasn’t good enough for his dad? We could almost swear that he was into drugs and the likes, only for the ‘not being good enough angle to be the main issue’, what an irony!
Another unbelievable scene was where the Pastor’s wife was worried for their daughter’s safety when they hadn’t heard from her in days, yet the Pastor was busy with his phone and unbothered. Asides these fault, it was an enjoyable movie.
In conclusion, Man Down is a must watch for Christians who carry church on their head to detriment of their children, loved ones. We will rate it a 7 out of 10.
