Bolanle Austen-Peters has now released her movie, Collision Course, on Netflix and one thing we can assure you is to have your pile of tissue papers or a handkerchief ready for the tears that the movie ending will jerk from your eyelids – if you are an emotional person like us of course!
Collision course, which features Chioma Akpotha, Daniel Etim Effiong, Kelechi Udegbe, Ade Laoye, Kenneth Okolie, Bimbo Manuel, Gregory Ojefua, Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan (BamBam), Kalu Ikeagwu, and Robert Young, tells the story of a police officer struggling to make ends meet and an upcoming artiste.
The police officer sets up a roadblock to collect bribes. At the roadblock, he meets the artiste and one bad decision leads to a grave costly mistake.
Interestingly, it puts up a mirror on the street life of Nigeria, and the widespread agitations against police brutality in Nigeria and how youths are ready to make their voices heard. It also mirrored the October 2020 Nigerian outrage of the #EndSARS rampage led by the Special Anti Robbery Squad. The police unit assigned with the job to curb armed robbery ends up becoming the very perpetrator of severely violent crimes. In the movie, SARS is replaced by TARZ, the same unit wreaking havoc on innocent lives by misusing its power.
The movie ran for just an hour and a few minutes but it delivered its thought-provoking message within the short frame of how the Nigerian system is meddling with the lives of its citizens by sometimes forcing someone to turn against the very same people sworn to defend. – may Nigeria not happen to us!
Collision Course is a sad tale that exposes the unfortunate situations occurring that abound in our society and beyond.
All the characters delivered their roles; the acting especially from Daniel Etim Effiong and Kelechi Udegbe who played the roles of the two major protagonists, Mide Johnson and Corporal Magnus respectively, and BBNaija’s Bamike is particularly worthy of mention.
Aside from the casting, accolades should also be given to the location manager, technical team, and set and property crew. The camera work and soundtrack were likewise excellent.
