Movie Review: The Silent Intruder is a suspense-filled drama with a thrilling twist

Movie Review Silent Intruder

The movie “The Silent Intruder: He Cometh to Steal” a movie executively produced by Pere Egbi and distributed by FilmOneng, has now been released in the Cinema.

When we saw the title of the movie, we had some inkling of what the movie is about, as the phrase “He cometh to steal” is synonymical to the description of the devil meaning that there’s a dark character lurking somewhere in the movie but then the extent of stealing that took place in this movie, took us by surprise.

Movie Review Silent Intruder

Directed by Uyoyou Adia, the movie features Pere Egbi, who plays Dr. Zaki; Uche Montanna, who plays Catherine; Venita Akpofure, who plays Carrie; Lucy Ameh, who plays Keta; and Kachi Nnochiri, who plays Dave, among others.

Set in Lagos, the movie follows the intricate lives of Catherine and Dave, also known as Mr. and Mrs. Philips, a couple who are having marital issues about their sexual lives as Catherine expresses dissatisfaction with her husband’s sexual performance. The couple sees a sex therapist upon the insistence of Catherine which leads them to Dr. Zaki.

Dr.Zaki is a successful, attractive sex therapist, who battles his demons of sexual compulsion. His appetite for sex is insatiably beyond measure, lusting after every attractive woman he encounters.

Manipulative and deceptive Dr. Zaki meets Catherine and begins to have a little too much interest in the affairs of his client blurring the lines of professionalism. Will Dr. Zaki sort out Catherine and Dave’s marital issues? You should head over to the cinema to find that out for yourself.

The actors in the movie performed great, there are only five characters in the movie but then one wouldn’t even notice because of how well they owned their roles, Uche Montana embodied her role as she transitioned seamlessly with so much authenticity; for instance, whether she’s playing the angry wife, sexually pleasured character or even the scared victim in the movie, she brought her A-game.

Pere Egbi on the other hand was the devil himself with his character Dr. Darky, he played a character so dark effortlessly he was the charismatic devil.

The movie excels in character development as it gives us insight and a deeper understanding of the characters and their complexities, However, while there was a deep understanding of the characters, some essential details were left out, for instance; we were not given the actual reason why there’s a fallout between the Phillips, why they had sexual friction, did one stop loving the other hence the sexual disconnect, was it stress at work, a medical condition?

We never got to find out as all attention shifted from therapy after a while during the movie, leaving these aspects unexplored.

Also, we never got to find out why Dr. Zaki was maniacal, has he always been that way with his clients, or was Cathrine a recent development and why?

The storyline of the movie is great, the initial scenes, rising actions, climax, and then the resolution are all on par and we were indeed taken through an unpredictable journey with this movie as it does not follow the traditional structure and we didn’t see the end scenes coming at all.

While the story explores creativity, it comes with a sense of deja vu as it does feel like we’ve seen this type of scenario one too many times in the Hollywood space with movies like “Obsessed” or even “The Perfect Guy” but then “The Silent Intruder” came in with its own uniqueness.

The movie is well-paced, it maintains a great flow between the slower and faster moments adding to the suspense in the movie and every single part of the movie is engaging and suspense-filled toward the end, leaving viewers wanting to know what’s next.

The production team did a great job with the setting location of the movie and the costumes of the characters, although, they could have done better with the outfit choices of Venita’s character Carrie

The cinematography in the movie is great, as the camera work, lighting, and overall visual style did their own work to bring out the beauty in the movie and Lagos as it portrays some very beautiful locations. The soundtrack and the use of sound in the movie are great as they add to the overall enhancement.

The movie depicts messages that are very vivid as it does not only depict some complexities that are in marriages but also how well or how bad couples can handle their marital issues and these complexities depending on their actions as we see with Mr. and Mrs. Phillips.

It goes beyond the surface to depict the darker nature of human lustful desires and how they can cause so much destruction if not addressed or even tamed.

Furthermore, the movie also depicts the complexities of friendships and how quickly people can change or hurt others out of sheer selfishness. It serves its fair share of caution, urging viewers to be cautious of their interpersonal relationships.

Overall, it maintains that, even though couples seek marital counsel or guidance externally is valuable, the bulk of the work on the road to positivity in their marriage still rests on them and not solely on the counselor or therapist.

Additionally, it serves as a subtle warning that people should be careful about whom they go to whether professionally or personally for their issues.

Conclusively, It’s obvious the producers and characters of the movie “Silent Intruder” brought their A-game resulting in a movie that stands out but not without its drawbacks here and there.

The familiarity of the movie with some in the Hollywood space gives this movie a somewhat cliche vibe and the ending wasn’t that great.

Despite these considerations, the movie is thrilling, and suspense-filled and would have viewers connecting with characters on different levels.

From us at Kemi Filani, it’s 8/10 for “The Silent Intruder: He Cometh to Steal”.
