The first season of ‘Anikulapo: Rise Of The Spectre’ is currently streaming on Netflix and has been a huge success, with positive reviews trailing the release of the Nollywood epic series. While fans are still meditating on the first season, I couldn’t help but imagine what the next season holds. This is due to the awesome plots created by the directors.
This write-up reviews the plots and how they may appear in the coming season.
Saro’s women living together
At the end of season 1, we saw Awarun (Sola Sobowale), her daughter Latorera (Oyindamola Sanni) and Olori Arolake (Bimbo Ademoye) living under the same roof. This was after different tough experiences brought them together. One thing they all have in common is that they were once Saro’s lover. They might live peacefully together for now, but what will happen when Saro resurfaces?
Will Saro return to Awarun, an old sugar mummy who got worried that he got her daughter pregnant? Will he ignore Awarun for Latorera who successfully delivered a baby for him or will he ignore her to return to Arolake who brought him fortune? If the movie goes as assumed, Saro’s decision will determine if all three women will continue living peacefully under the same roof. I can’t help but imagine the drama that will develop with Saro amid the three women who have a soft spot for him.
Bashorun ‘s resurrection
We all still marvel at the amazing acting displayed by Owobo Ogunde who starred as Bashorun in the series. However, his character was killed brutally. Does this mean that we won’t see Bashorun in the next instalment of Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre? I don’t think so.
The last appearance of Bashorun in the series involved his ghost walking towards the great beyond while holding a charm which he forcefully took from Saro. Recall that the charm was given to Saro at the entrance of the great beyond. He was ordered to go back to earth and use the charm to kill all those he brought back to life through the power of Akala, a mythical bird.
With Bashorun holding that charm, the guardian of the gate to the great beyond will likely send him back to earth. His return to earth will be to either hand the charm back to Saro to fulfil the task he was given or to carry out the task himself, which the guardian will command. Either way, Bashorun is different from the kind of character to quickly ease out of the show. So, I believe we will see more of him in the next instalment.
Awolaran and Akin
The two characters are in love with women who don’t feel the same way for them. They are both in the friend zone.
While Akin is in love with Arolake, Awolaran’s heart belongs to Omoba Omowumi who doesn’t want it. As long as Saro is still in the picture, Arolake will never develop true feelings for Akin (Gabriel Afolayan). To her, he’s just a willing tool to lead her to her destination. As for Awolaran (Lateef Dimeji), even though Omowumi returned to him after her husband Kuranga died, he will always remain a second fiddle.
The partnership between Akin and Awolaran saw the release of Arolake from custody. I expect to see more of what that partnership will achieve in the next season of Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre.
