- Charly Boy has said that he would be leading a protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the the election exercise is postponed a second time.
The singer turned political activist said this during an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.
He said that the peaceful protest will be taken to the INEC headquarters following any other postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections.
However, Charly Boy also noted that he sees the postponement of the elections from Saturday, February 16 to Saturday, February 23, 2019, as an “act of God.”
He said, “I want to believe that what happened on Saturday is some kind of divine intervention, no matter how much things have become so politicised in our environment.
“However, if there is another postponement, we will go to INEC office to tell us what is happening and whether they are truly independent or not.
“Unless they want to set fire on an already tensed situation in the country, I see no reason why INEC should postpone the elections again.
“Nigerian politicians are very desperate to get and hold unto power and it is part of my nationalistic engagement to speak against mindless political criminality in the polity, “he said.
As earlier reported, INEC announced the postponement of the 2019 elections on the eve of the initially set date due to difficulties in logistics and planning.
NYSC members who were deployed as ad-hoc INEC staff were also reported to have revealed plans to boycott the exercise over the difficulties they faced, which were made worse by the postponement.
