It is no longer news that the rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold today at various polling units after it was postponed by a week on February 16.
Earlier this week, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) promised to announce the presidential elections early.
The promise was made by the electoral body’s chairman, Mahmood Yakubu on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, while speaking to newsmen in Abuja.
Yakubu said “Even though this time around we have more presidential candidates than in 2015, we have more registered voters than we had in 2015, the size of the result sheet is bigger than we had in 2015, but we are committed to concluding the process for the Presidential elections roughly about the same time that we concluded the 2015 general elections. We will do whatever we can to ensure that we speedily conclude the process but we won’t sacrifice accuracy for speed.”
The results will be announced at all polling units immediately after collation, transported to the local governments, then to the State INEC headquarters from where there will be taken to Abuja’s national collation center for a holistic tally.
The winner of the presidential election should be known before the dawn of Sunday, February 24, 2019
Many believe the presidential election is simply between incumbent APC’s Muhammadu Buhari and former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Candidates like Kingsley Moghalu, Fela Durotoye, Sowore of Sahara Reporters are considered underdogs.
