Hon. Chetachi Onwume representing Igbo One Ward Three, has been suspended by the Rivers State’s Etche Legislative Assembly after a rape allegation was leveled against him.
Few days ago, a lady went on a one-man protest with claims that the lawmaker raped her sister at the hotel where she worked in Abuja.
She wrote:
“Please friends, kindly help me tag, share, tweet.
Honourable CHETACHI ONWUME. A councillor in Rivers State, sexually molested my sister on Monday at her workplace where he lodged at gwarinpa Abuja. She went to give him his bill as he requested. He then grabbed her, strangled her and raped her. He deposited his sperm in her.
“Yesterday morning,having involving an activist/lawyer, he pleaded and offered a compensation of 50,000 which my sister and her lawyer refused. When the police got involved, he had disappeared. The hotel management claimed they didn’t see him leave.
“My sister is still in the hospital. This morning at gwarinpa police station where we reported, they said the case will be forwarded to the command where such cases are handled. He has locked his Facebook account which as at yesterday was active. We hope we get justice.

“I had a one-man protest yesterday on the hotel street. A senator met me, lawyers and activists.

We’ll get justice.

Action has now been taken against the lawmaker by the leader of the House, Rt. Honorable Blackson Nwayanwu, who announced his suspension, today
This was after shortly after the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Collins Nwankwo, raised the motion which was seconded by Hon. Tony Nwaelem.
