Despite the Federal Government’s warning through Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), that suppliers and retailers using the excuse of coronavirus case in Nigeria to inflate protective apparel will be prosecuted, some pharmacy are going against the order.
A particular pharmacy in Lagos has triggered the anger of some Lagosians for selling their sanitizers far above it’s normal price.
According to a Facebook user who is also an author, Farida Ladipo-Ajayi, she was shocked to discover that the Medmark Pharmacy sold 500ml of hand sanitizer for 19,950.
“So because of Corona virus, Medmark Pharmacy on Adekunle Osomo street Soluyi Gbagada sold this 500 ml sanitizer for N19,950. We didn’t notice, got back opened the product then debit alert of N19,950 came in. Took it back and they insist that is the price. I need to escalate this to whoever it may concern, this is too much, she captioned the photo above she shared.
Below are some reactions of angry citizens who had also called upon the FCCPC to come and close down the shop.
“Hmmmm and u didn’t drop it back and carry something worth your money chai. That’s madness oooo..that store need to be closed down, the owners are the kind of people that prays for evil to happen in Nigeria,” wrote a Facebook user.
Another added: “They will arrest me. That’s all I can say. I think the best body to report to is FCCPC according to the news just now”
“I swear….. Enough is enough… No regulations at all…. This is messed up. I bought same mask for less than 1k some weeks ago,” wrote Kelechi Igbokwe.
“We are our own problem in this country. The wickedness is appalling. This is the height of Wickedness. EFCC needs to visit that supermarket. People should know it’s not strictly about use of hand sanitizers, but about proper hygiene.” Another added.
“We are our own problem honestly! You make that thing expensive and people don’t buy it because they can’t afford it and they get infected and then infect you, who lose? Something that should have been made readily available and affordable, they’re hoarding and shooting the price. Na God go help us,” wrote one Ms Francisca.
“Same neighbourhood, I was there yesterday…..Saw the scary prices on each Sanitizer and shook my head seriously!! What level of wickedness!! Heartless people, tomorrow dem go enter church go pray!!” Another Facebook user commented.
“They are both Parents…..highest level of criminal extortion!!
It’s a big shame, especially this Pharmacy. Same thing they did during “Ebola scare “.
The Authority has to come to Gbagada, not just them, all the Pharmacies Gbagada.
