So, we finally saw Niyi Akinmolayan’s feature film, Prophetess, which is packed with all the spectacle expected of a Nollywood real comedy movie and more.
The Prophetess, a new film which opened in cinemas across the nation this weekend is best described as a comedy of epic proportions.
In fact, if you want to laugh out loud indeed, this is a movie to see with your full chest.
Produced by Victoria Akujobi and Mimi Bartels, the feature film follows the story of Ajoke, a local prophetess whose bogus prediction about a football match sets off a series of events that spiral beyond her control.
This led to endangering her life, her sister’s life, and that of her sick mother.
Shot in Ibadan, Prophetess stars Kehinde Bankole, Kunle Remi, Ronke Ojo, Tina Mba, Stan Nze, Uzor Arukwe, Deyemi Okanlawon, Adedimeji Lateef, Blessing Jessica Obasi, Seyi Awolowo, and Toyin Abraham, among others.
The outrageously hilarious antics the characters in the movie displayed was quite commendable; every scene of the movie consist of comedy in action or words.
Not to mention the realness this movie has. It was quite relatable and enjoyable
There’s Uzor Arukwe, who runs a betting company, whose histrionics and diction are as humorous as they are praise-worthy. Then there’s Stan Nze as Buntus, Deyemi Okanlawon as Fogo Bombastic and the music that accompanies its entrances.
Oh! Kehinde Bankole who played Labake, deserves rounds of applause. Labake’s performance was a stand out! She delivers some realness in acting and she’s no doubt the best character in the movie. The church scene where she’s undeniable out of breath, or the scene when she finds out what happens to her money or when she was threatening Fogo Bombastic. Ronke Ojo is indeed a veteran!
To enjoy Prophetess, you must first of all be a fan of all the major characters, that’s a sure way the movie would warm its way into your heart.
Toyin Abraham didn’t disappoint this time, although her switch of tongue could easily be faulted. In some scenes she’s sounding deformed, other scenes her speech is fluent.
One other good commendable features of Prophetess it the messages it passes.
Don’t look down on anyone, despite the circumstances.
Prophetess also passes the message of hope and forgiveness.
We are always after happy ending and we love how Niyi Akinmolayan drew the curtain in this blockbuster movie.
