2023 election: Singer, Obiwon praises Nigerian youths

Nigerian singer, Obiora Nwokolobia-Agu, better known as Obiwon has praised the enthusiasm of the Nigerian youths towards the 2023 general elections.

In a recent interview, the singer who has since transitioned from secular to gospel music noted that the youths are beginning to understand the strength of numbers and have shifted their mentality from the people in power putting who they want to the fact that their votes can actually count.

He said: “The interest of young Nigerians in the 2023 elections has been impressive. We have never had it like this. In the past, the mentality of many youths was that, ’they will put who they want’. But now, we have an electoral act that is better than what obtained before. We are beginning to see that to a large extent, votes are counting. There is an awakening, and young people are realising that there is power in their numbers. It is very encouraging. However, we must be careful, so that violence, tribalism and all sorts of divisive things that had hindered us in the past will not be used against the current momentum of young.”

Kemi Filani notes that the 2023 general elections have set a pace for history in Africa as the youths are fully prepared to vote for their preferred candidates without fear and intimidation. Some celebrities have also taken to social media to share updates of happenings in their polling units.

Nigerian celebrities storm polling unit

Kemi Filani reported earlier that Nigerian celebrities have stormed their polling unit to cast their votes in the 2023 general elections which hold today 25th February.

Unlike the previous elections, this year’s election is one for the record as Nigerians have heard enough of the injustice, insecurities and other mishaps in the country.

The likes of Comedian Bovi, Chioma Akpotha, Omoni Oboli, Chidi Mokeme, Adunni Ade, Adesua Etomi, Blessing Obasi and husband Stan Nze, Jemima Osunde and more have stormed their polling units.

Taking to their Instagram pages, the aforementioned celebrities shared photos and videos of them at their polling unit as they admonish their fans and followers to do the same.

Adunni Ade, on her part, questioned INEC officials as she lamented the absence of the commission at her polling unit. She wrote: “Good morning y’all!! Ok we are live still waiting on @inecnigeria officials! No one in sight!!! Where una dey???? You can’t blame traffic o! Road is clear o! Where una dey??? No ballot! No tent!”.

Juliet Ibrahim shares words of advice with Nigerians on election day

Kemi Filani also reported that actress, Juliet Ibrahim took to her Instagram page to share a word of advice with Nigerians.

Juliet who is of Lebanese, Ghanaian and Liberian descent shared the story of how she grew up and the importance of electing a good leader. According to her, she grew up in four different countries as a refugee and this cost her family a lot of relocation because of various circumstances. She said she watched her parents, family and relatives being harassed and such memories play out in her head in every election or during political unrest.

Advising Nigerians, she noted that violence is never the answer. She asked that Nigerians go out peacefully and vote for the best candidate and not allow corruption, mediocrity, lack of empathy, anarchy, violence, instability, and tribalism to continue in the country. She also prayed for the country to be great again.
