Big Brother Naija reality star Bamike Olawunmi Adenibuyan, better known as Bambam, has opened up about the painful side of childbirth.
In a recent episode of Me and My Girls on Fertitude, she shared the side of childbirth people don’t talk about. Bambam opened up about the realities of postpartum care, the impact of medical negligence and what every woman should know about advocating for herself.
Bambam revealed that her kidney failed, her heart became weak, her liver and everything shut down. She disclosed that her daughter had already detached from the placenta and would have lost oxygen if they had gotten to the hospital a minute late. The mother of two added that anytime she looks at her daughter, she is grateful that God saved her life.
The wife of Teddy A said the incident haunted her for a while that she had to seek therapy to walk her through being grateful.
“My kidney failed, my heart became weak, my liver, everything was just shutting down. She had detached from the placenta; if I was a second late, she would have lost oxygen, and I would have had a stillbirth. Every time I look at her, I just say ‘what if’. That word tormented me; what if the doctor wasn’t attentive? What if the nurse didn’t do her due diligence? It haunted me for a while, I had to get therapy to walk me through being grateful”.
A year back, Bambam opened up on motherhood and how she dealt with Postpartum depression, revealing that she never imagined her body would ever get thick and she would change so much. Luckily, she had a good husband, who never made her feel bad or body-shamed her.
She said when her daughter came out, she had a different skin tone, which left her querying the doctor. Bambam also revealed that she suffered from postpartum depression and had preeclampsia during her first pregnancy.
This wasn’t the first time, she had opened up on her battle with Post Partum depression.
In an interview with media personality, Stephanie Coker, she revealed that she was mercilessly dragged on social media for her plus size, disclosing that she had to develop a tough skin to handle their criticisms. Bambam added that she was lucky her husband, Teddy A, loved how women big, so he didn’t make her feel bad.
