Beating we received from parents didn’t make us turn out as well as we think – Kemi Lala AKindoju

Actress Kemi Lala AKindoju has said that the beating the children of her generation received from parents didn’t make them turn out as well as they think they did.

The actress stated this in reaction to a debate on a viral video which shows a man beating his son for failing Maths and English.

According to Kemi Lala Akindoju, the children from her generation can only realize how damaged the beating from their parents rendered them when they interact with their agemate from other countries.

She shared: “Reading tweets about how most of our parents raised us & how proud we are of how we turned out- actually we didn’t turn out as well as we think. When we have conversations with our age mates from other parts of the world, we have to admit that we need to raise our kids differently and this doesn’t mean spoiling our children and not instilling discipline. It is from things as basic as taking time to understand the personality and temperament of each child, instead of using a one size fits all formula.

“Some of us are so traumatized we think verbal and physical abuse is normal. Some of us have had to re-develop our self-esteem because of the way our parents raised us. Some of us don’t even know how damaged we are. Some can’t have proper emotional connections because of this.

“There’s really no manual on raising children and I think it is a street with many contributors- the parents, the child, the school, and God who gave the child. Sometimes 2 children from the same home turn out different even when raised under the same values

“I don’t have children yet, so I am not an authority on this but I know that many of us didn’t turn out as well as we think because of how our parents raised. Most of us are just learning to be whole beings in our adult life. Spread some love today”.
