Popular actress and filmmaker, Halima Abubakar has stated that while growing up she was ridiculed, told she was ugly.
Speaking in a chat with Saturday Beats, the Kogi born actress said:”I have never considered beauty as a selling point because I was told that I was ugly. That is bullying. They called me ‘short’ as if that would stop anything in my life. I was not born tall, so, why should I be expected to be tall? I am a petite woman and I love it. If I am ugly, then the people (calling me such) have zero understanding of what beauty is”.
On the lessons she has learnt during this tough phase of her life, she said:”The lessons I have learnt are not what other people can handle. It takes a very strong person to stand despite it all. Some people would have probably committed suicide. Some people are scared that I would mention their names but if you have made my life miserable in the industry, you should not expect to have peace too.”
Halima once said she doesn’t want to share her private life with the public. In her words: “Nobody knows if I’m married and it’s not something I want to involve people in. People will just see me popping (giving birth to) kids. I don’t want to share my private life with the public. In showbiz, I can give out something different, aside from my family. Everyone must not show off their husbands or boyfriends. Some people are always ready to crash beautiful relationships and I would not give anyone room for that. I had a similar situation with an ex but the man was foolish and childish to have listened to (naysayers). Men are not worth fighting over. Their eyes are always roaming. Some people are even ready to crash my friendship with my colleagues and fellow women.
“Whoever is in my life is making me happy. I think trust is important in a relationship. I don’t have anything to hide. I have never dated two men at a time. I don’t pressure myself about meeting expectations or targets. I might set a goal for myself, while God wants something better for me. The mouth is very powerful and one has to be careful about what one says. I don’t usually reveal my plans ahead of time because I am not God.”
