Nigerian rapper and singer, Cynthia Morgan otherwise known as Madrina has offered veteran actor, Pete Edochie a piece of advice.
Following the veteran’s encounter with the Ooni of Ife which some social media users found disrespectful, Cynthia Morgan advised Pete Edochie to learn to respect other people’s traditions.
She noted how the veteran is held in high regard and highly respected, hence, why she believed he should also reciprocate such gesture by respecting others.
“I like the fact that Pete Edochie’s tradition is being respected today and I hope he learns to respect other people’s traditions too moving forward. i.e. (that is) That Benin woman cannot give a common or a titled Ibo man an “Osiba” for no just reason. Unlike when he forced me to give him an Osiba in 2016 in Okrika precisely. Cheers”.
Man calls out Pete Edochie for disrespecting the Ooni of Ife at an event
Kemi Filani reported that a Nigerian man had called out Pete Edochie for disrespecting the Ooni of Ife at an event.
The Ooni of Ife and Pete Edochie had attended the 40th birthday party of Elizabeth Jack Rich.
In a video that made rounds on the internet, Pete Edochie was seen entering the party venue with actor, Kanayo Kanayo, who drew his attention to the Ooni.
Pete Edochie walked up to the Ooni’s table to exchange pleasantries with him.
In the short clip, Pete Edochie was seen giving the Monarch a handshake rather than a bow.
A Twitter user who found it disrespectful to the monarch, took to the micro-blogging platform to call out the Ooni, calling his action wrong.
“This is worth but I won’t stress it… I let it slide!”.
Coming to Pete Edochie’s defense, many questioned why a title Chief like Pete Edochie would bow to the Ooni.
One Dr. Penking wrote, “I see people having seizures because Pete Edochie shook hands with Ooni of Ife instead of bowing. Let me shed some light. Pete Edochie holds one of the highest traditional titles in Igbo land. A titled Igbo man must never bend his knee to any other apart from his Chi”.
