Former Vice-President and presidential aspirant, Abubakar Atiku has not only deleted a message on his Twitter handle condemning the lynching of the Sokoto College of Education student, Deborah Samuel but has now denied posting the tweet.
Kemi Filanir recalls that Deborah was stoned and set ablaze by her colleagues for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Mohammed.
The now-deleted tweet had read:
“There cannot be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered and all those behind her death must be brought to justice. My condolences to her family and friends.”
But some northern Muslims had reacted to the tweet by threatening not to vote for Atiku in the 2023 general elections.
As a result, Atiku Abubakar deleted the tweet.
After the tweet was deleted, the presidential hopeful then went to his verified Hausa Facebook page to distance himself from the tweet.
“This evening I received information that a post was made that doesn’t agree with my orders. I use this to announce that any post without A. A. is not from me. May God protects us,” Atiku wrote in the Hausa language.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Police Command on Thursday said two students who participated in the killing of Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto over an alleged blasphemous post on social media have been arrested.
Police also promised that some suspects who were seen in the viral video on Twitter stoning the late Deborah Samuel will be nailed soon.
