Former England defender, Glen Johnson, has told Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo to shut up and respect manager Erik ten Hag.
Ten Hag dropped Ronaldo for the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw at Chelsea.
The 37-year-old has been fined by the club, after he refused to come on as a substitute in the 2-0 victory over Tottenham.
Ronaldo is now set for showdown talks with Ten Hag before he is reintegrated into the squad.
“Respect is mutual. No player can do what they want, the team is more important than one player, I don’t care who it is.
“Both Ten Hag and Ronaldo need to show respect to each other, of course, Ronaldo deserves respect for what he’s done. But then he needs to respect his manager.
“If the team is winning, players who are not playing need to shut up, there’s a time and a place when you’re banging on the manager’s door, and that’s when you’re not playing when the team is losing every week,” Johnson told Midnite.
End the relationship ASAP
Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has advised the club to “end the relationship” with Cristiano Ronaldo this week.
Ronaldo was dropped by Erik ten Hag for their 1-1 draw at Chelsea after refusing to come on as a late substitute against Tottenham.
The 37-year-old left early during Wednesday’s victory, having walked out before half-time during a pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano.
“End it this week or create a truce to get to the World Cup and then end it. Because this has to end,” said Neville.
And during a heated debate on Sky Sports with former United captain Roy Keane, Neville argued: “There aren’t many Manchester United fans who would now have Ronaldo in their starting eleven.
“They are better without him – they score more goals without him and they win more points without him. Manchester United are a better team without him.”
