Nollywood actress and box office filmmaker Funke Akindele has recounted how God used singer, Dbanj to speak to her to keep her popular Jenifa brand.
The award-winning actress while speaking at the singer’s 20 years in the entertainment industry anniversary dinner, revealed that the singer was the one who encouraged her to keep the brand on fire. According to her, she ran into the singer for the first time at a club and he asked if she was working on more sequence to Jenifa, which he loved, but she told him No. This surprised the controversial singer as he noted how Jenifa is a lucrative brand which she should keep milking and feasting on.
To show his support for her, he gifted her money to work on more sequence and that brought about the Return of Jenifa.
“After the big break with Jenifa, everybody loved Jenifa so much, I was out there and everyone was celebrating me so much. I was invited to a club where I met Dbanj for the first time and he gave me his number and inquired if there is a sequence to Jenifa, I told him No and he questioned why as he noted how Jenifa is a brand I can feast on for the rest of my life. He told me that when I have a brand, you feed on the brand, you milk the brand very well and make money out of it. Out of his pocket, he gave me money and said I should go write another Jenifa and he supports me with the money”.
The movie star further praised him for being a movement as she noted how he is more than just a musician. Funke further noted how his music has brought joy to people’s hearts and his legacy will live on forever.
“Dbanj you’re more than just a musician, you’re a movement! Your music has brought joy to our hearts, and your legacy will live on forever”.
Days back, Dbanj had paid respect to his former business partner and Mavins founder, Don Jazzy. He noted how his journey will never be complete without him, as he shared a video of him giving Don Jazzy an invitation to his anniversary dinner.
