Nigerian comedian Otaghware Onodjayeke, better known as I Go Save, has slammed Toyin Lawani and others for celebrating Halloween.
Recall that Americans and many across the world celebrated Halloween on Sunday, 31st October 2021and so many Nigerians joined in celebrating with their different costumes.
Taking to his Instagram story, he pointed out the hypocrisy at which Nigerians celebrate Halloween yet look down on idol worshippers like Okere Juju, Ifa, Ayelala, Igbe, Olokun, and others. I Go Save urged them to do better.
“Una dey celebrate Halloween but call Okere Juju, Ifa, Ayelala, Igbe, Olokun worshippers, et al. Idol worshippers. Make una dey do well na”.
Surprisingly, many concurred with him via the comment section.

I Go Save isn’t the only one who feels this way. In April, controversial media personality and life coach Solomon Buchi lampooned some Nigerians who are quick to celebrate Halloween. He revealed that if, as a Nigerian, you are celebrating Halloween when you are not celebrating indigenous festivals in Nigeria, then it wasn’t right. He further used the New Yam festival in Nigeria as a clear example, as he expressed that some Nigerians don’t travel to their village for their New Yam celebrations but are so quick to celebrate Halloween.
Similarly, Anita Joseph’s husband, MC Fish, encouraged Africans to embrace their heritage and culture instead of celebrating the white people’s culture. He stated that seeing our tradition as barbaric while embracing the Western tradition that they don’t know the origin is foolish. According to him, Africans should represent Africa from the heart and not by mere identity.
