Nollywood actor Ikechukwu Ogbonna, simply known as IK Ogbonna has called for the urgent regulations of the rules binding shooting of films in Nollywood.
IK Ogbonna called the attention of the governing body to regulate late night shooting particularly for those who work tirelessly back and forth and hence develop weak immune systems.
He noted that there should be an emphasis on the provision of medical department on every set of any film to aid in cases of emergency.
The dashing actor added that a body that does not receive adequate rest deteriorates, and lamented the frequent loss of celebrated Nollywood artistes.
“We must urgently address the issue of safety in Nollywood. There are several important points I would like to emphasize, but to summarize, it is crucial that every movie set includes a medical department from now on. Additionally, we need to seriously consider the impact of late-night shoots, particularly on those who work tirelessly back-to-back. When the body does not receive proper rest, it inevitably begins to deteriorate (fail). It is disheartening to say but we only hear of the celebrated we lose, but we tragically lose crew members all too frequently. May this unfortunate loss serve as a catalyst for change, ultimately saving lives.”
IK Ogbonna trails the likes of Ini Edo and others who called for restructuring the rules guiding shooting of films and testing the efficiency of producers before certification.
Ini Edo in her message to the Nollywood governing body slammed the poor structure of the industry that has taken a toll on them. She lamented the actor’s death which she called a sacrifice for the realization of the need of the much needed regulation and structure that would safeguard an entire production.
The mother of one called Junior Pope’s death as one of the sacrifice that must count and urged the system to undergo a total overhaul with rules and regulations that will cater to everyone.
