Kelvin Ikeduba, a Nigerian actor, has voiced his frustration and disappointment regarding the chaotic situation surrounding the Naira in Nigeria.
On his Instagram page, the 46-year-old actor shared his thoughts on the challenges that many Nigerians are currently facing.
He pointed out that despite the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive for banks to release older Naira notes, some vendors are hesitant to accept them out of concern that the CBN will reject the currency.
The frustrated actor attempted to draw a comparison between the confusion of INEC and CBN, pointing out that the so-called directive is not being implemented properly, with some individuals relying on President Buhari’s words instead.
Kelvin said: I have never seen a country as confused as this country? Among CBN and INEC I don’t know who is more confused. what is going in this country…
The controversy surrounding the Naira began prior to the presidential election, when a directive was issued stating that older Naira notes would no longer be considered legal tender. However, a few days after the election, a new statement was released stating that the older Naira notes should once again be accepted in circulation.
Despite this, sellers and business owners have yet to succumb to this update, making it difficult for Nigerians to do their daily business. They insist that the Central Bank of Nigeria has to give an official statement.
Banks begin paying old N500, N1,000 notes
Kemi Filani recalls that some banks started paying out old N500 and N1,000 notes following the Supreme Court judgment last week, which extended the validity of the Central Bank of Nigeria currency redesign policy to December 31.
Guaranty Trust Bank, Polaris Bank and some other banks confirmed dispensing the old notes in Abuja and Kano.
A banker who spoke with Daily Trust said that the directive to begin paying the old notes in their vault was from their management.
