Nigerian filmmaker Kemi Adetiba has narrated her experience with Nollywood actress Nse Ikpe-Etim during the production of ‘King Of Boy’s’ sequel as she celebrates her 47th birthday.
In the lengthy emotional post shared on her Instagram page, Kemi Adetiba said Nse Ikpe-Etim fell sick on their first day at the movie set due to nervousness.
Hearing the news of her ill-health, Kemi Adetiba said she quickly wrote a reassuring hand-written note to Nse alongside a T-shirt of the movie ‘KOB’.
According to Kemi Adetiba, when Nse got the note, she called and apologized profusely, stating she did not understand why she was nervous and physically sick about the movie project.
Responding, Kemi Adetiba said Nse Ikpe-Etim was sick because she respected and appreciated the movie’s title; hence she wanted to give her absolute best.
Kemi Adetiba noted that being a director, she had to channel Nse’s nervousness into adrenalin to kick ass on set, and they made a pact to each other to either ‘Ride or Die’ on the movie project.
She wrote: I remember @nseikpeetim’s first day on the KOB set. I was told she had been really sick all day (brought on by nervousness). I immediately wrote her a reassuring hand-written note, attached it to a KOB shirt, and asked for it to be dropped off with her before she left for set.
Nse calls me when she gets it, apologizing profusely. She couldn’t understand why she was so that nervous, that it was making her physically sick. She does this for a living.
I told her I knew why…. It was because she RESPECTED and appreciated the title and wanted to make sure gave her absolute best. She CARED and because she CARED she was already my favorite person. I wouldn’t want to work with someone who didn’t care to be there or demand the absolute best off themselves.
Now, my job as her director was to channel that nervousness into adrenalin to kick ass on set. The heavy-lifting was mine, and mine alone. And if she gave me the honour of TRUSTING me as her director, I would never leave her hanging, and we would both create one of the most iconic characters on the African screen.
Right then, we made a pact to each other… We would “Ride or Die” for each other on this project. She had my back, and I had hers FULLY!!! And the rest (they say) is HISTORY cue in Her Excellency – Mrs. Jumoke Randle.
I’m grateful that our relationship has left the KOB universe and extended to a friendship. You are truly one of the most sincere, intuitive, graceful, fun, funny, complex human beings I’ve ever had the honour to meet. And I’m grateful for it.
