Officers of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, following a petition filed against him by Fuji singer Saheed Osupa.
According to a statement from the police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, the petition borders on serious allegations, which include criminal defamation, a threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and the use of abusive and insulting words.
Following the petition, Portable was arrested in Abeokuta, Ogun State,, on Saturday, April 13th, at about 7:25 p.m. He was immediately transferred to Ilorin for further questioning, and arrangements have been made to charge him to court without delay.
“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin. Acting on this warrant, operatives from the Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs. He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigations.
Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties”.
Kemi Filani reported last month that Saheed Osupa had reported one of Portable’s songs on Spotify and other streaming platforms for copyright infringement, resulting in the song’s removal from the platform.
An enraged Portable had attacked the Fuji icon, mocking his physique and questioning his relevance in the music industry.
Retracing his steps, Portable later issued an apology and blamed his outburst on greed.
Portable since his entrance to the music industry has become well-known for his series of controversies and love for fighting.
Last year, Portable was mercilessly beaten by Nigerian-American singer Esquare over failure to perform at their show. Narrating the incident, Portable claimed that 40 people attacked him, and they had badly injured him and left him with a broken leg.
Sharing their side of the story, Esquare debunked the reports of beating Portable and recounted the incident.
