Nollywood actress and CEO of ROK tv, Mary Remmy Njoku has recounted an humiliating and degrading encounter she had with a legal practitioner when she offered to help her relative out with getting a loan.
According to her, she wanted to stand in as a guarantor for her family member but was turned down because she felt the actress wasn’t capable enough to be one.
Despite googling herself, showing her several proofs that she was the CEO of ROK studios, the woman still found it hard to believe that she was that big.
“Dear women, women are doing big things too!! Few weeks ago, a family member needed a guarantor for her rent and I went to the lawyer’s to sign. Spent over 45mins trying to convince her I can afford rent but she didn’t believe me. Thought I was an actress whose career has refused to blow. She needed a proof that I am truly the Founder of ROK. Or the CEO of the studio. I Googled my name but she no gree. The agent and I begged her to do small research but refused. Told her I will get CEO of IROKOTV to co sign but she said I was calling big big names. She insisted on seeing my business card. I had none. Business Card wey dem fit write anything o! I had to call a male colleague whose career is stronger than mine to help be the guarantor. She was a fan and super happy. I was sad. For her. She lives in a box. An old one. Today, Nollywood is arguably controlled by women. We sign almost all cheques! But I guess I am too young and too simple to be ME. I had no entourage. I waited at the reception. I was super polite. She even asked for the name of my Grandfather’s village. I was nice. Yet she insisted on being a fool. Sad. The law firm called back later that night to apologise and wanted me to sign instead. Too late”.
This isn’t the first time the actress has been degraded for her simple lifestyle.

According to the actress, these people come up with the idea of how her look does not befit her position and her fame in the industry since she was a role model to them.
In addition, she said they left the issues in their own lives and decided to meddle in her own life to focus on giving unwanted fashion advice.
Mary revealed she should not be addressed as a role model if it was all about the dressing but not what the person had to offer to society, adding that they should make their family members their role models instead.
Speaking further, she told them to shut their mouths and let her live her life the way she wants.
