Nigerian singer Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known by his stage name May D, has opened up on his marital life.
In an interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast, he revealed that he was a house husband to his foreign wife in Sweden. According to him, his European tour took him to Sweden, which he enjoyed as he got several inspirations as an artist.
The singer also had a girlfriend in Sweden, who he has been with since 2014. He said the girl was constantly coming to Nigeria to see him, and he decided to return the favor during his Sweden trip by visiting her parents, who he said were very cool.
According to him, he got a house in Sweden and decided to get married to her and was a househusband all through their marriage. May D made it clear that his wife wasn’t the one feeding him as he had his musical career and shows which was paying him more than his wife. He said it was his choice to stay at home and take care of their child while his wife did a 9-5 job. Unfortunately, his marriage crashed during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“A show took me to Sweden but I decided to stay there. Inspiration is in Sweden.
I was on her European tour and Sweden was the last leg of the tour. I already had a girlfriend from Sweden since 2014, she was always visiting Nigeria. I met her parents when I visited her country, and they were cool so we decided to get married. I decided to get a house there because of her, and I started living there.
I was a house husband while my wife was working. I was only doing shows there, but was making more than her. I didn’t care about being a house husband because we had a child and I was the one taking care of the child. My wife couldn’t be working and taking care of the baby at the same time.
We eventually divorced during COVID-19 because I got stuck in Nigeria. Even if I was cheating that wasn’t a reason for the divorce because”.

In other news, last year, a Nigerian waitress called out the singer for allegedly refusing to pay his outstanding balance of N11K for a meal he bought. The lady had shared several screenshots to back up her claims, as she recounted the incident.
Reacting to it, May D told those dragging him to leave him alone as he revealed that he was broke. Asking the lady to send him her account number, he promised to pay her at the end of the month when he collects his salary from his boss.
