In a recent development, Afrobeat singer Yemi Alade, popularly known as Mama of Africa, has shared some insights on why she hardly wins awards.
She expressed that when she first started in the musical scene, all the men had wanted to sleep with her. She also further stated that her refusal to engage in such activities may have impacted her award recognition in Nigeria.
She expressed that a lot of times she is not nominated in award categories and that it largely has a lot to do with men.
She also stated her confusion that even though she is one of the most viewed and most subscribed Nigerian female artists on YouTube, she still constantly feels overlooked by the award shows.
Now, recall that back in February of 2024, Yemi Alade had roared at an unknown colleague for being disrespectful. The Johnny singer has stated that one should not think that because of social media, everyone is their mate. She also admonished the receiver of her tweets to take his or her time.
In her words, she stated, “You see this life, don’t think that because of social media, we are mates. Take your time.” However, she did not share any insights on who exactly her commentary was made for.
Now recall that back in January of 2024, Dr Penking described had Yemi as a Smart money woman, who knows how to cash out from AFCON.
He pointed out how Alade always enters the studio two years before AFCON to sign a song about Africa, which endears organized to her, who then choose her to headline the ceremony.
