Omowunmi, the wife of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has left many emotional with her touching speech at the Headies Award.
Kemi Filani reported that the 17th edition of the Headies Awards was held on Sunday, April 27th, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, and many celebrities attended.
Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley, won the Best Street Music (Street Hop Artiste) of the Year award and the Viewer’s Choice for his song, ‘Egwu,’ with Chike.
Giving a speech to celebrate her husband’s win, Omowunmi said she doesn’t refer to him as her late husband because he lives forever, especially through their son, Liam. Omowunmi believes that someday, Liam will grow up to know the depth of his father’s greatness and the impact he made through his music.
The mother of one expressed gratitude to the organisers of the awards for honouring her husband’s memory and legacy, as she made it known that it means a lot to them.
“On behalf of myself, my son Liam, my husband’s immediate younger brother Adura, and the rest of the Imonelization family, we want to specially thank you for this award. Although Mohbad isn’t here with us anymore, he lives on. I don’t like to address him as my late husband cause he lives forever, especially through our son Liam. Although he may be too young to grasp the depth of his father’s greatness, I know, and I believe that one day, he will know. Thank you so much Headies. Thank you for shining a light on my husband. Thank you for honouring his memory and legacy. It means so much to me, his son and the entire Imonelization”.
Refreshing your memory, Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marleyâs record label, tragically passed away at 27 under unclear circumstances on September 12, 2023.
In February, Mohbadâs wife had opened up about her struggles since the death of the singer the TV host. She revealed that she often questioned God for taking the life of her husband. She spoke about her father-in-law and how he has been fighting her about her husbandâs property and also spoke about the threats she has been receiving from Naira Marley and others.
Recall that following the singerâs death, many had clamored for a DNA test to be done on Liam, his son to ascertain his paternity. Even Mohbadâs father had called for DNA to be done on his son, a statement which Cynthia Morgan agreed with.
Last year, in April, a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu granted the order that Omowunmi needed to be served a notice of the pending DNA test application. The legal team told the court that the Sheriff of the court had attempted twice to serve Wunmi the court process but failed and the Chief Magistrate then ordered that Wunmi should be served by posting the court process on her last known address.
