Former Big Brother Naija (Shine Ya Eye) contestant, Angel Smith turned 23 today, Monday February 13, 2023.
The Reality Show star via her verified Instagram page says she’s sees her life as perfect despite all the tears and struggles.
Sharing some beautiful images, Angel Smith wrote: “When I was younger and I’m still relatively young Lmaoo , I used to say “my life isn’t perfect but at least it’s okay”, I’m 23 today with a new found vision, that my life IS perfect, the tears, the struggle, the heartbreaks, grief and all the losses are what gave me strength to drag myself into today and I am sure 14 year old me who wanted to give up thinks I’m an absolute icon. My life is perfect as is. It doesn’t matter what tomorrow holds, not the frustration, the uncertainty, the demotivation, I am here, present and it’s perfect. Time, I can think of all the many things you’ve taken from me and I can think of all the second chances you never gave me but today I remember that which you have given me, life and the grace to see 23 years although very tumultuous. You’ve given me one more year around the sun and I will use it wisely. here is to more drunk calls with my friends, here’s to laughing until my tummy hurts, here’s to falling in love and falling out of love, here’s to one more hug from my mum, here’s to getting heartbroken just to piece myself back again. I embrace the entirety of life, the good, the bad and the ugly, that’s what has made my 23 years on earth perfect, oh and I hope 14 year old Angel knows we have sick tattoos now, she would have thought I was such a cool ass person. Happy birthday to her.”
Angel Smith, had in a recent interview recalled her early life struggles and how she overcame them.
The controversial Reality Show star who just kick-started her podcast, ‘Of Blood, Bones and Water’, said, it was borne out of her life experiences.
Angel Smith while speaking further on the inspiration behind the podcast recalled how she became homeless after death of her boyfriend.
She said: “It was inspired by struggle and silence. I struggled so much growing up, and I said it while in BBN; from self-harm to sexual assault, physical assault, death of my boyfriend and homelessness because I had left home. It felt like the universe was taunting me, and I went through all that while having a social media presence that seemed jovial. That was because I was silent. Sometimes, people judge one for always being sad. So, people choose struggling in silence. I started the podcast to normalise vulnerability. I want people to feel safe in their vulnerability.”
Advising individuals in abusive romantic relationships, she said, “I always roll my eyes whenever I hear people telling persons in abusive relationships to leave. Some people leave, and their abusive partners kill them; so, it is not easy to leave. There are many factors to consider and truthfully, I don’t know the right approach.
“For people in such situations, they should reach out to their friends, family members, therapists, or anyone that can help them. They should make sure that they are always surrounded by people. They should also ensure that they are never alone with their abusers. Also, they should tell people close to them that if anything happens to them, they should hold their abusers responsible.”
The Shine Ya Eye edition housemate also said her anxiety became worse after participating in the reality TV show.
“I have voiced out my struggles with anxiety and depression. My anxiety became significantly worse after the show (BBN). I could not come online without giving myself a pep talk, especially after a lie was published about me. There was this whole Internet saga of people misconstruing things, and even lying against me to fit a narrative. It was hell. Now, I still struggle with coming online; it makes me anxious. Sometimes, I laugh about it, but it has made me so fierce about protecting my space, even with my fans. I am not the fun Angel that used to gist with them anymore.”
