‘Not all support is done because of money’ Yul Edochie urges Nigerians to stop harassing celebrities over their political choice

Yul Edochie

Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has written an open letter to Nigerians over the constant attacks and trolling of celebrities over Politicians.

In a lengthy post on his Instagram page, Yul noted that blogger, Tunde Ednut posted a picture of billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote Congratulating the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and many trooped to the comments section to praise him. However, if a celebrity had done the same thing, he or she would have received insults.

While asking noting that celebrities have been fighting themselves over politicians, he asked that everyone should rest. Yul attests to the fact that the election outcome hurts some Nigerians, he urged that everyone relax and leave celebrities alone.

Yul further asked Nigerians to allow celebrities to support their candidates in peace because everyone has a right to choose which must be respected. He also noted that not all support is done because of money.

He wrote: “Tunde Edunt posted a picture few days ago of Dangote. Many people in the comment section were praising Dangote but only it was a celebrity that congratulated Tinubu by now insults will be flying up and down. E go dey collect woto woto.

“Even celebrities are fighting themselves over choice of candidate. Nigerians Zukwanuike. Una too do. I know the outcome of the election is still hurting a lot of people and its understandable, but we all need to calm down. Leave celebrities alone. No be celebrities spoil Nigeria. Everyone has a right to support any candidate of their choice. No matter how good your candidate is, he or she will never be everybody’s candidate. You have to get used to it and respect each other’s choices. That’s democracy. Celebrities no be INEC.

“Also note this, not all support is done because of money. Some people support a candidate because they believe in the candidate’s vision, some support because the candidate has also supported them in the past, some do it because they just like the candidate. But whatever the reason is, everyone’s choice must be respected.

“Also, Celebrities are not decision makers in the country. the decision makers are the people in power. so dragging celebrities because of decisions made by the leaders doesn’t make any sense. Its a waste of time and energy. Misplaced priorities. If a political office holder is not doing well hold him or her accountable.

It is the duty of every citizen to demand good governance, not the duty of celebrities alone. Lets stop fighting each other and learn to coexist peacefully irrespective of our diverse views and choices. Love and peace always. YUL EDOCHIE.”

Yul Edochie calls for unity among Nigerians

Kemi Filani reported that Yul Edochie called for unity amongst Nigerians as he admonishes against tribalism in the country.

This comes following the statements reportedly made by Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos state, Gbadebo Rohdes Vivour (GRV). Reports claimed that GRV made a statement on Twitter which is tribalistic and offensive to the Yorubas.

It was reported that he said, “Lagos is no man’s land”.

Speaking on the issue, Yul Edochie recounted his favourable experience in Lagos state, which included, building a house, living for over a decade, and the accommodating spirit of the Yorubas.

He wrote, “I’ve lived in Lagos since 2011
Built my house in Lagos.
Not once have I experienced any form of hate or rejection from the Yorubas.
Anytime Yoruba boys see me on the street, they gather to greet me, and it’s all love always.
And this talk flying around that Lagos is a no man’s land is wrong.
Lagos is a Yoruba state in Yoruba land.
Imagine someone saying that Anambra is a no man’s land. That’s crap.
Anambra is an Igbo land.
You can’t come into someone’s land and tell that person it’s now a no man’s land.
Na you dey find trouble.
Nobody can deny the fact that the Igbos have contributed immensely to the development of Lagos.
Other tribes have contributed in their own ways too.
And the Yorubas have been largely accommodating as well.
It shouldn’t take away the fact that Lagos is a Yoruba land. We no dey drag ownership.
Let’s kill tribalism before it kills us.
