Nigerian singer, Omawumi Megbele aka Omawumi who turned 40 on Wednesday April 13 has shared her excitement with Kemi Filani News.
The mother of two in this exclusive interview talked about life at 40, celebrity marriage crash, her next project as well as other issues.
You just celebrated your 40th birthday, how do you feel?Honestly, I feel elated. 40 is the new 18, ya (laughs). Seriously it’s a wonderful feeling and I want to thank the Lord. I’m really grateful for it. I’m grateful for everything that God has done in my life. I am grateful for my friends. I’m grateful for my family. I’m grateful for everything. So I’m just in a state of gratitude.
Do you have any project at hand you would love to share with your fans?
Oh yes! I have started recording another project and there’s also one production in the works as well. I have some other things down the line that I’m pursuing. Everything will come to fruition maybe before the end of the second quarter of the year.
What would you tell women who go into marriage without proper income?
Well, you see, it’s good not to advise anyone, yes. There’s a proverb in my place that says “One who hasn’t trained him or herself shouldn’t get a pet to train”. But honestly, it is good for a woman to be financially stable before going into marriage, but on the other hand, if you don’t have what will you do? absolutely nothing and it is part of what affects marriage.
You are arguably one of the best Acts in the Nigerian Music Industry, how have you been sustaining your brand?My dear, it’s not me, it is the Lord who has been by my side all along. What do I know? What can I do without him? It is mostly the Lord Jesus that has been doing the sustenance for me. I have a rule but yeah, that’s pretty much and dedication, professionalism, making sure what you say is what you mean, and just being in the street. I’m married by the grace of God, so basically, it’s been God all the way.
