The Nigerian police have arrested Jasmine Okafor, the adopted daughter of ailing actor, Mr Ibu, and one of his sons, Daniel Onyeabuchi for allegedly defrauding the actor of the sum of N55 million.
The news was made known by The Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCID), Alagbo who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, January 25th, 2024.
According to the statement, the FCID received a petition from his wife, alerting them of their plans to defraud her husband while on his sick bed. His wife, Stella who was managing the funds was manipulated by Stella and Daniel and they took possession of Mr Ibu’s phone and hacked into his bank details.
They successfully reinstalled the mobile banking applications of Mr Ibu on the phone of his son, Daniel, and wiped off the banking applications originally installed on Mr Ibu’s phone, thereby taking full charge of his banking activities.
Investigation further unearthed text messages via WhatsApp between Jasmine and Daniel detailing how they conspired and hatched their criminal plans. It was also exposed that the two had a sham marriage at the Ikoyi Magistrate Registry with plans to escape from the country to the UK where they intended to settle with their proceeds of crime. They had already applied for a UK Visa in furtherance of this plan prior to their arrest.
During the investigation, it was discovered that they had spent N5 million from the money, while the balance of N50 million has been recovered.
The two were granted bail in the sum of N15m with two sureties in like sum while the case has been adjourned to 11th March 2024.
Kemi Filani reported a few days back that Jasmine and Mr Ibu’s son had been allegedly rearrested by the police.
According to reports online, the actor’s children were rearrested on Wednesday, January 17th, and locked up in the cell and are awaiting court charges. Information reaching Kemi Filani had it that they would be charged to court on Thursday, January 18th for refusing to release and hand over everything including social media accounts to his wife, Stella Maris.
The reports also stated that the ailing actor was recuperating and had ordered his possessions to be handed to his wife.
Jasmine had shut down the report as she shared a video of her and actor, Deyemi Okanlawon having a swell time.
The news of Jasmine’s alleged sham marriage to his son, wouldn’t be surprising as last year, an alleged leaked audio of Mr Ibu admitting to sleeping with Jasmine Okafor made rounds online.
In the alleged audio, Mr Ibu was conversing with a woman, who questioned if he was aware that Jasmine was only using him for fame and was now sleeping with son following his illness.
This corroborated his wife’s claim during an online rant that her husband was sleeping with Jasmine, an allegation which they both denied.
