Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has made an appeal to Nigerians against pirating her movie.
The movie star, whose latest movie, Alakada Bhad and Boujee is currently available in Cinemas across Nigerians, via her Instagram page, revealed that someone was caught at the cinema recording her movie. The mother of one said the guy deleted the recording, and she allowed him to go.
Begging Nigerians to stop recording her movie, she stated that she wouldn’t interfere again should anyone be caught recording.
“We caught someone at the cinema, who came to record Alakada: Bhad and Boujee. He deleted it and I told them to let him go. Please stop recording; if they catch anyone, I won’t interfere again. Please, guys, I am so tired”.
Last year, Toyin Abraham took a huge step against piracy as she paraded 5 people trying to sell out her movie, Malaika, which was streaming in the cinemas. During a press conference, the mother of one revealed how she was hinted at the rampant piracy move, as she disclosed that she nearly went mad because she had spent over five hundred million naira on the movie project.
Toyin isn’t the only one taking a stance against such people. Funke Akindele, who premiered her much-talked-about movie Everybody Loves Jenifa, cried out over the high rate of piracy in Nollywood. The box office Queen urged Nigerians to say No to piracy, which is killing them. Funke noted how she worked so hard on her new project, spent a lot of resources, and is still investing in the movie.
Bolaji Ogunmola had issued a stern warning to content stealers on YouTube and other social media platforms. She let them know that she was ready for them as she noted how they had no idea the amount of money she had spent on creating content. Bolaji revealed that she has constantly suffered setbacks because of them and has heard enough.
Last month, Deyemi Okanlawon had spoken out against piracy as he noted how Nollywood producers, especially newbies like himself try to tell global-level stories, with no support from government or financial institutions, yet Nigerians have no idea how much damage and loss their participation in piracy causes them.
In October, actress Wumi Toriola, who made her first entrance to Cinema production, laid a heavy curse on those asking if her movie would be available on YouTube or Telegram. Some of her fans who couldnât afford to watch her movie in Cinemas had questioned if it would be made available on YouTube and if they could have a Telegram link to watch the movie illegally, and she took to her Instagram Live to rain curses on them in her dialect.
