Actress Lala Akindoju has penned down an emotional yet beautiful tribute in honor of late actor, Karibi Fubara ahead of his funeral service scheduled for Friday, February 11, 2022.
Kemi Filani recalls that Karibi was announced dead on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
The God Calling actor had been diagnosed with cancer in 2020.
The actor married celebrity stylist Yolanda Okere in December 2019.
Karibi died at age 46.
Mourning him on Instagram moments ago, Lala Akindoju wrote “Karibi was no ordinary man. Once you meet him, you never forget him. I first met him when we were shooting the very first Season of #GidiUp for Ndani tv. The first thing I noticed was his professionalism and how serious he took everything he did. Karibi too the phrase “an actor prepares” to the next level. He would ask for time and when he said he was ready, he was READY. We became friends and colleagues and we would compare notes on different industry issues, casting matters, actors and quality of work. When it came to work matters, Karibi was a professor. No holding back, no cutting corners and always wanting better.
Working with him as BODE on #TheSmartMoneyWoman is one of my most beautiful work experiences with him. Karibi never said no to auditions. Even though he was very successful in his other line of work, he showed up for EVERY audition & gave it his all. We couldn’t have had a better BODE. I’m so glad I told you this every time.
Karibi became my brother in 2017 when started “toasting” the love of his life, Yolanda. I smile as I type this because that season was so beautiful from their first date till the end…Karibi LOVED Yolanda. Karibi honoured her and he pushed her. It warmed my heart so much when he merged their surnames and they became the Okereke-Fubara family. What a man!!! It was beautiful to see her blossom with him. We indeed became family.
We did hope for a better outcome, but in those 18 months, Karibi taught me so much. Every message, voice note, & video was an opportunity for Karibi to remind me about fulfilling God’s will & focusing eternal things. Truthfully, Karibi was really heaven focused and he didn’t hide his total surrender to God. I really wish Karibi didn’t die, that I wasn’t writing this, that all our plans and hopes will now remain just plans & hopes.
But, I am grateful I met you Karibi, I’m grateful I knew & experienced you. You were such a fine gentleman, an outstanding talent, a person of integrity, a dependable friend and brother and a fantastic husband to Yolanda.
I do not deny the pain but I am encouraged because I know, to be absent from the body is to be present with Christ.
