Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto has approved the sum of N380 million for the feeding of Islamic residents in the state just as he also gave permission for the creating of more food centres during the Ramadan.
Tambuwal disclosed this in Sokoto, according to Daily Trust.
The governor said N80 million was added to the earlier approved N300 million for the programme to cater for more feeding centres.’
The governor reportedly said this at the the flag-off of distribution of the Sokoto state 2019 Ramadan package charity for the poor at the auditorium of Sultan Muhammad Maccido institute for Quran and general studies.
Governor Tambuwal, represented by the state’s deputy governor, Manir Mohammed Dan-Iya, gave a breakdown of how the fund would be spent.
According to him, N200 million would be spent for the purchase of Ramadan and Sallah packages under the state zakkat and endowment commission.
Also, N175 million would be spent on Ramadan package for distribution to imams, deputy imams and other religious leaders under the state ministry for religious affairs. The report said the move was commended by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
Recall that the Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III declared Monday, May 6, as the first day of Ramadan, 1440 AH which marks the commencement of the Ramadan fast by the Muslims across the country.
Making the announcement in his palace in Sokoto, Abubakar said the commencement of the fast followed reports of sighting of the moon across various states of the federation which marked the end of the month of Shaaban 1440 AH.
