So, Funke Akindele’s much anticipated movie, Omo Ghetto (The Saga) was released in the Cinema yesterday, Christmas Day.We have seen the movie and here is our report.
Omo Ghetto tells the story of Lefty and her squad (Nikky, Chummy Choko and Busty) who grew up in the ghetto together and was always getting into one trouble or the other.
However, as luck would have it, fortune smiled on Lefty and she was adopted alongside her twin sister, Ayomide, by the lovely Mrs Benson and moved to an upper-class neighborhood.
Irrespective of all the affluence and the new luxurious change in environment, Lefty still finds herself going back to the ghetto, falls in love in the ghetto and keeps getting in trouble.
Eventually, she gets into one very big trouble with which she tries very hard to get out of. This leaves her in a state of dilemma.
The film stars Funke Akindele-Bello (as Lefty) alongside, Chioma Akpotha (as Chummy Choko), Eniola Badmus (as Busty), Bimbo Thomas (as Nikky), Akah Nnani (as Mario), Alex Ekubo (Obi Wire), Zubby Michael (as Aza Man), Deyemi Okanlawon (as Stone), Timini Egbuson, Nancy Isime, Paschaline Alex, Mercy Aigbe among others.
As a star studded movie, one would have thought Omo Ghetto would be a flop like it’s other precedent but indeed we got the worth of what we paid for and even more.
Seeing Funke Akindele play two separate characters perfectly was such a beautiful sight to behold.
Without too much overemphasis, Funke Akindele’s knack for role interpretation would make one love her even more; seeing the swift move from Ghetto to Porch lifestyles.
Her switch of accents, personality, body language was everything.
The fight scenes were so real and relatable. In fact the whole movie puts you in a kind of exciting mood. Kudos to the director, JJC Skillz (Funke Akindele’s husband)
It was also good to see the mixture of Yoruba actors and their Igbo counterparts in such a blockbuster movie; centering on peace and unity in the industry.
Although a comic underdone laced with actions, Omo Ghetto (The Saga) is also lesson filled with perfect delivery from the actors. To be sure, someone else sees this movie ‘recommended’ as we did, we conducted few interviews after the movie. The nods were overwhelming.
So, if you want to have a good laugh and take some life lessons home, go see Omo Ghetto (The Saga). Thank us later.
