After watching Love in Every Word, I understood why the movie received so much social media hype, with positive reviews from girls and negative, angry reviews from guys.
Love in Every Word tells the story of Chioma, who meets an Igbo businessman, Obiora Odogwu, who is ready to move mountains to make her his wife. To profess his love, Odogwu showers Chioma with loads of attention and gifts and gives her his heart on a platter of gold. Despite approval from her mother, friends and office colleagues, Chioma still hesitates to accept Odogwu’s love.
The movie was produced by actress Omoni Oboli and stars Bam Bam, a former BBNaija reality TV show contestant, and Uzor Arukwe. Don’t blame me if I didn’t mention the names of the other cast; they are not popular actors and didn’t play significant roles in the movie.
Why did the movie get so much hype? It is because Odogwu portrayed the kind of man every girl wants. Odogwu not only showered expensive gifts on Chioma but also promised her no sex until marriage. Even when they spent their first night together as lovers, he slept on a single-seater chair while Chioma slept on the bed inside the same room. That kind of man is every girl’s dream, the prince you see in Disney cartoons.
Unfortunately, for this movie, every sensible guy hates it, going by the kind of comments I’ve read on social media. Odogwu portrayed what guys call a Simp, someone who would bend over backwards for a girl who doesn’t care about him. Those behind the story took Nigerians back to the 90s Nollywood movies, which had guys thinking buying a girl flowers and succumbing to her every desire was the way to the female gender’s heart. Many who followed that advice regretted it.
It was very stupid seeing Odogwu buy the entire building that housed the office where Chioma works because he wanted to see her. Seeing him visit the office with traditional musicians to serenade Chioma was also stupid. Such only happens in the world of fantasies. But girls love such a fantasy, which explains why they love the movie. That is why I stated in the title of this review that watching this movie as a man can make you foolish.
It is stupid to throw around money and attention to a woman you want to marry. Ladies know who they will marry or sleep with from the first time they lay their eyes on that person. So if you approach a girl and she says yes instantly, you do not need to run to her office daily with gifts and musicians. Doing such will turn her off, and when she’s off, you can’t turn her back on no matter how much you spend. After all, it was money that turned her off. That’s why Chioma hesitated to marry Odogwu, who was leading her with his wallet instead of romantic charms devoid of lavishing money.
It is not only men that this movie will dumb down. Ladies will also be affected as it will make them entitled. They expect every guy approaching them to act like the Simp Odogwu. Meanwhile, the guy they truly love and give their body and attention to doesn’t spend any dime on them other than money for soft drinks when they visit him to play wifey roles.
On the technical aspect of this movie, I would, first of all, want you all to know that it is a very low-budget film. It looks like it was shot with a poor Android phone. The audio quality is weak. Expect nothing from the lighting department. As for color grading, please don’t go there. Despite the poor quality in every aspect, Love in Every Word became the talk of the town simply because it sold a fantasy which gullible people love. I won’t recommend this movie because I don’t want the population of foolish men to increase. Love in Every Word gets a 2/10.
