In this moment, Imole compels Selense to kneel before him to tend to his wounds, while telling his son to watch as that is the place of a woman and a man is not suppose to cry shows Patriarchal Africa where women are relegated to positions that are similar to kneeling on the floor(subservient positions), and young boys are taught not to cry as men crying gives a bad image of them as weaklings. It underscores the societal expectation that men should not show vulnerability through tears, reinforcing harmful stereotypes about masculinity.
