Popular Nigerian singer, and Grammy awards winner, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy bagged double nominations in the 2023 Grammys.
With a cumulative total of six nominations, Burna Boy has tied Afrobeat superstar Femi Kuti for the most nominations of any Nigerian musician in Grammy history. For his hit song Last Last and his most recent album, Love, Damini, Burna Boy received nominations for Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album respectively.
Burna has now been nominated for the Grammys for three years, the most of any artist. His two prior albums, Twice As Tall and African Giant, were each nominated for a Grammy Award at the 62nd and 63rd Grammy Awards, with the latter winning Best Global Music Album in 2021.
Along with Berklee Indian Ensemble, Anoushka Shankar, Angelique Kidjo, Ibrahim Maalouf, Metropole Orchestra, and Jules Buckley with Manu Delago and Masa Tukami, Burna Boy is up for the Best Global Music Album award.
Burna’s popularity led the recording academy to decide to honor not only the recording artists but also the producers, engineers, and mixers involved in the nominated work.
