The governorship candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party ( NNPP) in Kaduna State, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi has vowed to reinstate all District and Village heads sacked if he’s elected governor because their removal contributed to insecurity.
Recall that Governor Nasir El-Rufai‘s administration sacked over 300 district heads and village heads across the 23 local government Areas of the state.
Hunkuyi claimed traditional rulers contribute towards securing their communities through sharing intelligence information with security agencies.
He stated this in Kaduna during a chat with reporters on Tuesday, adding that their removal contributed to the deteriorating security situation in rural communities.
“They are part of the cognisance of the security network of their communities. So part of what we said we are going to do is all district heads should go back to their offices. We will reassign them, we will redefine their roles. We will give them responsibilities.
“Therefore, the issue of security must take cognisance of reflecting our own hamlets, villages, communities. We have to come up with burden of security to life from those standards before coming to what we know as other apparatus of security,” he said.
Hunkuyi said the All Progressive Congress (APC) wrecked Nigeria’s economy and would be voted out in 2023.
The NNPP candidate said the party didn’t adopt the same faith ticket because they believe in inclusiveness considering the cosmopolitan nature of the country, particularly Kaduna.
