Jabi Mall in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, has been shut down operations over security concerns.
This comes after the US warned its citizens about the possibility of terror attacks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The federal government subsequently assured citizens that measures are in place to safeguard lives and property.
In a post on Instagram on Thursday, the management said it is reviewing the situation and would inform customers when it reopens.
“To all our valued shoppers, Jabi Lake Mall will be closed today, Thursday, October 27, 2022. This decision has been taken in the overall interest of the safety of all staff and customers of the mall,” the post reads.
“Centre Management is committed to minimizing any disruptions; however, the safety of our staff and shoppers remains our highest priority.
“Management is constantly reviewing the security situation in consultation with relevant security authorities and will inform you when the mall will be reopened.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to provide you with a quality shopping experience soon. Thank you.”
Despite the closure of Jabi Lake, several malls are still open for business in the FCT.
DSS reacts to security alert over terror attack in Abuja
The Department of State Services, DSS, has reacted to the security alert.
The US Mission on Sunday, listed targets as government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, and bars.
Reacting, the DSS called for calm and urged Nigerians to be vigilant following the warnings.
It assured that it would work with other security agencies to maintain the peace. And also appealed to Nigerians to assist security agencies with useful information regarding threats and suspicious criminal acts around them.
The statement reads, “The Department of State Services has received several enquiries relating to the security advisory issued by the US Embassy in Abuja, today, 23/10/22. The public may recall that the Service had variously issued similar warnings in the past.
”The Service calls for calm as it works with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to maintain peace and order in and beyond Abuja.”
