Nigerian tennis icon, Funke Oshonaike, has rubbished a report that she was raped by her ex-husband, Kevin Irabor.
According to her, the report was made by a journalist whom she claimed she never had any interview with.
The report read, “Nigeria’s Olympic legend, Funke Oshonaike, has revealed why she left her marriage.
“She attributed it to rape, battery and dishonesty on the part of her ex-husband.
“She stated that her former husband was always in the habit of beating her, after which he would jump on her to have sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
“The 48-year-old ping-pong player said she did all to protect the union but her ex-husband was not helping issues as the rape and beating persisted.”
The report quoted Oshonaike as saying, “The beating was becoming too much, aside that, I was being raped by him. I did all I could, fasted and prayed but the needed change didn’t come. I even tried to file for divorce, but families and friends prevailed on me not to do so.”
The report also claimed that the tennis star was shocked and her BP rose when she saw a photo of her ex-husband getting married again.
Taking to Facebook on Tuesday, Oshonaike stated that the report about the rape was a lie while urging the public to disregard it.
“It has been bought to my notice about an online news written by a journalist, Mr Adebobola Alawode.
“He said my ex-husband Kevin Irabor raped me!! I just want to let everybody know that it’s a lie because Mr Kevin irabor never raped me and I never granted Mr Alawode this interview!!!
“I will be happy if all journalists could please allow me to grant them an interview before writing untold stories about me. Thank you,” she wrote.
