Amid rising regional tension, President Bola Tinubu has sent a letter to the Senate, seeking approval to declare war against the coup-seized Niger Republic.
Kemi Filani News had reported that President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, read the letter on the floor of the Upper Chamber on Friday.
The letter reads: “Following the unfortunate political situation in the Niger Republic culminating in the overthrow of its President, ECOWAS under my leadership condemned the coup in its entirety and resolved to seek the return of the democratically elected govt. in a bid to restore peace, ECOWAS convened a meeting and came out with a communique.
“…Military build-up and deployment of personnel for military intervention to enforce compliance of the military junta in Niger should they remain recalcitrant.”
Kemi Filani News recalls Niger junta had announced a cut on economic ties with Nigeria.
Earlier, the Nigerian government cut the power supply to Niger.
The ECOWAS, led by Tinubu, had insisted that the Military Junta in Niger should return to the democratically elected government of Mohamed Bazoum.
But efforts by the ECOWAS to resolve the political crisis in the Niger region seem not to be working.
Consequently Nigeria is seeking a military option to enforce compliance from Niger Military coup leadership.
