Wike, 4 PDP governors meet in Enugu

Rivers and Benue States Governors Nyesom Wike and Samuel Ortom met with three other Peoples Democratic Party governors in Enugu amidst the ongoing crisis rocking the party.

The three other PDP governors who attended the meeting were Governors Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and the host, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu.

The agenda of the closed-door meeting held at the Governor’s Lodge, Enugu, was not known at the time of filling this report.

However, according to Vanguard, sources said the PDP governors met to restratagise in their fight to have leadership balance in the party’s hierarchy.

The sources said the meeting discussed the issue of some members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, refunding hundreds of millions of naira to the party.

According to sources, the Wike group alleged that the money was a bribe to buy over the NWC members to support the National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, to remain in office.

They also discussed Atiku’s statement during his meeting with South-East PDP stakeholders in Enugu.

“Annoying statement that the president would come to South-East after his tenure, which most Igbo leaders viewed as an insult, wondering if he is now the owner of Nigeria who decides who leads and when,” the sources revealed.

The publication mentioned above reported that Wike also used the opportunity to brief his team on his meeting with the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar last week.

At the meeting, Atiku allegedly promised to support Wike in 2027, a promise the Rivers State governor was said not to have taken seriously; coming a few days, Atiku made a similar promise to the people of the South East.

Wike and the other governors are said to have resolved to ensure the resignation of Ayu as PDP national chairman for any meaningful talk with Atiku to hold.
