Fourteen Kwara political parties have signed a Peace Accord to ensure a level playing field in the upcoming general elections.
Alhaji Attahiru Madami, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara, confirmed this during the Peace Accord meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ilorin on Wednesday.
Madami, who was said to have carried out a similar exercise during the 2019 elections, stated that it would not have occurred in the absence of peace and an equal playing field.
The REC also promised to replicate the measures put in place four years ago to ensure that political parties and candidates have fair and equal chances of winning the election.
He commended the security personnel for the harmonious atmosphere that the residents are enjoying.
He urged the voters who migrated from old polling units to new ones to go and check their names and the name of the new polling unit on Friday to ascertain where to vote on Saturday.
He however said that 218,076 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would be taken to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for safe keep.
“I have zero tolerance to over voting, any polling unit that the number of voters is more than the number of accredited persons, the election of the polling unit will be cancelled,” he warned.
On his part, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama, said that security agencies are ready and done with all the deployment.
Odama assured residents and all other stakeholders of readiness to protect their lives and property before, during and after the election. (NAN)
