2 men in court for stealing items worth N1.8m

stealing liquor worth N16.1m

Two men, Olamilekan Akande, 29, and Yusuf Muhammad, 22, on Monday, appeared at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly breaking into the complainant, Mr Ikenna Obiwulu’s compound to steal goods worth N1.8 million.

The defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and burglary.

The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants conspired with others still at large and committed the offences on April 10, at No. 16, Redemption St., Ijeododo, in Lagos.

He alleged that the defendants forcefully broke into the complainant’s apartment and stole household items worth N1.8 million.

Aigbokhan listed the alleged stolen items to include a submissive pumping machine worth N80,000; one surface pumping machine worth N50,000; one air-conditioner worth N200,000 and one photocopying machine worth N170,000.

“Other items stolen are; a washing machine valued at N230,000; 30 bundles of electric wires worth N300,000; one Yamaha Generating set worth N150,000;
Aluminum windows worth N300,000 and 300 pieces of Iron rods worth N200,000.

“The total amount of all the items stolen was N1.8 million, belonging to the complainant,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 287, 307(c) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed with one of the sureties being a blood relative to the defendants.

She adjourned the case until April 24 for mention. (NAN)
