Sun news recently conducted a poll on the streets, asking Nigerians to tell who is smarter between Stella Damasus and Doris Simon.
The marriage of Nollywood actress, Doris Simeon and award-winning movie director, Daniel Ademinokan, was like a union made in heaven until their marriage crashed like a pack of dominoes over reports that Daniel was seeing someone else – Stella Damasus.
Ademinokan, has been quoted as saying that the union broke up because Doris was married to her job and thus imposed a boring sex life on him.

She starved her man of sex –Kehinde Adewale, undergraduate
It seems as if Daniel’s third leg was over-starved and he got infuriated and began to unleash his weapon of mass destruction. First, it was rumoured that he was painting everywhere in Abuja red with Tonto Dike. And Tonto’s denial only made them look more suspicious as her publicist laboured to exonerate the actress in an official statement that said Tonto had only met Daniel once. But I still blame Doris for all the mess.

There are many lessons to be learnt from the entire drama especially for women. You don’t starve your husband of sex unnecessarily in Africa. In this part of the world, husbands enjoy so much freedom. And any act of carelessness on the part of a wife would simply create a window for the man to express his freedom. That was what Daniel did.

A number of questions have been bothering me over this issue. Women are capable of doing even the unthinkable. Could it be that Doris secretly made all those things to happen? Could it be that she was in love with another man secretly? Why would a marriage that was once rated the best in Nollywood suddenly turned the opposite? And ultimately, why did she push on with life so easily and quickly with a juicy movie deal in South Africa after the break up as if nothing happened? Maybe answers to these questions would take us closer to the truth.

As for me, Stella is smarter. In my place, there is an adage that says ‘if you do not lick your lips during harmattan, harmattan will help you do it.’ Stella only helped to fill the vacuum which the poor girl carelessly created.

I wouldn’t want to use the word smart but careless. If all that I read about the issue were true, then, Doris was very careless. As a married woman, your husband should be your ultimate priority. Forget all the talk about women empowerment, womanism and whatever name they call it. This is Africa! If you remain outside of your home in pursuit of career and womanism, you will only return home to find your home in the hands of another woman. So let young wives learn a lesson from this.

I disagree with claims by Doris that she did everything to make her marriage work. For her man to have complained publicly that he was tired of living a boring sex life speaks volumes. The allegation that his wife was always away from home on movie locations only buttresses his claims that he was sex-starved. And what defence did Doris put up? That she was always rushing to finish her roles and return home. I think she was married to her job and not her husband.

Wives should endeavour to shun jobs that are capable of distancing them from their families. No matter how juicy, such jobs are not worth it. Many women hardly believe this fact and that is why marriages keep crumbling while their husbands smile into the waiting arms of other women who know the art of the game. Doris probably faltered in that regard.

Who knows whether Doris was not even tired of the marriage long before it broke up? When a woman is truly in love with her husband or lover, she would always crave to be in his arms and nothing; career or whatever, can stop her. So, I think that something must have made Doris to suddenly start preferring movie locations to her husband and family. Her excuse that she did everything to make the marriage work and that the break up may be God’s will are flimsy.
