“We eagerly await directive for resumption” Dowen College writes official letter to Sylvester Oromoni’s Parents, others

Dowen College

Dowen college has written an official letter to Sylvester Oromoni’s Parents and other parents in its parents association, stating that it eagerly awaits directive for resumption.

The statement from the principal to parents of students in the school reads thus:

Sylvester Oromoni'

“Dear Parents/Guardians, We use this medium and opportunity to thank you all for your steadfastness, prayers, support, and encouragement during this period.

We commiserate with the Oromoni family and the entire Dowen College family over the untimely and unfortunate death of our dear late student, Sylvester. The details of his passing are very sad indeed.

We continue to pray that God will comfort and console them and help them deal with the irreparable loss.

We are aware of the conclusion of the investigations by the authorities and are thankful for the outcomes.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your continued support as we covet your prayers going forward. We would also like to reassure you that we are working tirelessly to ensure that we enhance our security, health and safety measures around our classrooms and hostels.

Various reforms will be put in place and communicated shortly as we eagerly anticipate the directive from the Ministry of Education on the resumption programme.

We thank you once again for your support and look forward to a peaceful and successful term. God bless you.

Dr. Adebisi Layiwola Principal/Head of School”

This is coming after the Lagos State Government on Tuesday, January 5, 2022. cleared five Dowen College students and five employees of the school, who were accused of complicity in the death of Sylvester Oromoni.

This followed the Legal Advice of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi.

The legal advice from Oshinusi was addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID and the trial magistrate, Magistrate Olatunbosun Adeola.

In reaction, the mother of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old boy allegedly beaten to death by fellow students of Dowen College, has cried out to God to avenge her son.

Oromoni was reported to have died of injuries sustained after he was allegedly beaten by five senior students of the school who wanted to initiate him into a cult group.

A claim by his father that he was also fed a chemical substance was, however, dismissed by Dowen College which stated that the boy sustained injuries while playing football with his colleagues.

Oromoni’s mother, shortly after the students and officials of Dowen College were exonerated, made a video showing her lamenting that she couldn’t celebrate Christmas and New Year with her son.

She said, “The whole world will know that there is God that fights for the oppressed.

“Jehovah God, arise. King of glory, arise and cut short the lives of those that cut the life of my son short, including those supporting them.

“Let them feel the pains that I’m passing through. If they breathe the air that you created, God let your rod fall on them.”
