The captain of the Nigeria Basketball senior national women’s team, Adaora Elonu, is confident that the D’Tigress can surprise the world at the FIBA World Basketball Championship in Tenerife, Spain.
Elonu who was part of the team that won the 2017 Afrobasket championship in Mali said after the team’s friendly match victory over Raptors Academy 75-71 in a tune-up match.
“We have a formidable squad and I am so happy to be back in the team to contribute to the success of our preparation and ultimately victory at the World Cup.
“The team is strong and very determined to do well as we countdown to the World Cup which we are getting ready to prove to the world what we can achieve.
“I have missed the girls though I have been in good contact with them. I am very happy with the level of preparations so far,’’ she said.
Nigeria will slug it out with Argentina, Turkey and Australia for a place in the knockout stage.
The competition will commence on the 22nd of September and climax on the 30th.
